Words cannot begin to adequately describe how valuable Mike Herman has been to us as a friend, and a physician. He is a treasure, and a rarity. We have been through hell and high waters over the years. His expertise, and commitment to our pets never ceases to amaze me. Mike is special in so many ways. One of many examples comes to mind, and sums up beautifully how he looks at things. Something he has said to me a time or two is, "If you hear hoof beats look for horses, instead of zebras." Essentially, in the midst of fear and confusion he offers a calm and level headed approach to diagnosing even the most complicated cases. Instead of assuming the worst in any given situation, he pursues the most likely. He is a consummate diagnostician, a highly skilled surgeon, an avid advocate for the animals, but best of all… a great friend.

Dr. Mike Herman is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1991, and fell in love with Colorado (and, of course, a beautiful woman), which kept him here. He has worked at Belcaro Animal Hospital his entire career. He now lives in Mayfair with his wife, two daughters, and menagerie of pets. He loves all animals, but works with Colorado Greyhound Adoption and Galgo Rescue International. In 2009 he was nominated as the Morris Animal Foundation's National Veterinarian of the Year. In his sparse free time he enjoys running, fixing used computers and electronics, snowmobiling, and is an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
